Mayor David Weiss announced that Laura Englehart has been hired as Director of Economic Development. Englehart joins the City from the law firm Kohrman Jackson & Krantz LLP, where she was a partner and chair of the Economic Development Practice Group. Englehart begins her term as Director of Economic Development on August 1.
Englehart has extensive experience with economic development, including managing complex projects in both the public and private sectors. At Kohrman, Jackson & Krantz, Englehart led a team responsible for bringing jobs and investment to Northeast Ohio through the expansion and relocation of businesses in the region. She oversaw the development of Cleveland’s historic Victory Center, now the new world headquarters for Dealer Tire. The project included more than $24 million in public and private financing and more than $10 million in federal and state historic tax credits. She also has served as outside general counsel for early stage and middle market companies, advising clients on a wide range of development matters. Prior to her legal career, Englehart worked in the Office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown advancing community and economic development projects.
“We are very pleased to welcome Laura to the City to oversee our economic development efforts,” said Mayor Weiss. “Her expertise is well-aligned with the City’s goal to continue the redevelopment of our commercial districts, while also attracting new businesses and helping existing ones grow. As a long time Shaker resident, Laura also has a deep understanding of, and passion for, Shaker Heights.”
Englehart earned a Juris Doctor from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University; a Master’s of Public Administration from the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University; and a Bachelor of Philosophy from Miami University. She is also a 2001 graduate of Shaker Heights High School.
