The Shaker Heights Recreation department is committed to building stronger neighborhoods through programs, services and events that focus on the intangible benefits of recreation. These benefits may include values of responsibility, teamwork, accountability, respect, dedication, community and sportsmanship. Whatever your age or interest, there is something for you.
Register early, as some classes fill quickly. Registration ends and classes close two business days prior to first day of class. Registrations are entered in the order that they are received.
In-person: Thornton Park (3301 Warrensville Center Road) and/or Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Building (3450 Lee Road). Proof of residency required: driver's license, current utility bill, lease or purchase agreement. Current holders of Recreation ID cards must have cards renewed annually as proof of residency.

The City of Shaker Heights may terminate a class with fewer than the required number of participants and provide a full refund/credit. Programs subject to change of location and/or personnel.
Recreation brochures are published three times/year and the camp brochure is published once/year. Brochures are mailed, at no charge, to residents of the Shaker City School District.
Inclement Weather: Classes are cancelled when Shaker schools are closed. Refer to local radio and TV stations or online at www.shaker.org when you have a question about inclement weather. Call 216-491-3143 for information about cancelled classes.
Decisions to hold classes are based on enrollment at first class; no refunds granted after second session except for injury or illness. (Doctor's letter required.) Refund claim forms must be presented within 30 days of withdrawal from class or program.
Special programs such as child care, camps, and one-nighters handled on case-by-case basis.

Credit/Refund Policy Refunds are available for classes or program registration cancellations by registrants up to 72 hours prior to the first class meeting. A refund claim form must be completed. Forms can be obtained at the Main Office in Thornton Park or online.
In the case of trips, money is refunded only if the space can be filled and if the cancellation request is received at least 48 hours in advance. A full refund will be issued in the event of a class cancellation due to insufficient enrollment.
$10 processing fee will be deducted with the following exceptions:
$5 – 50+ programs
$25 – Camps
$25 – School Age Care
$100 – Fall/Winter Hockey (except Mighty Mites)
$25- Fall/Winter Hockey Administrative Fee
A Recreation Department computer credit will be issued to all refunds at no charge. If a refund is preferred, contact Linda Sulc at 216-491-2579. Please allow 3 – 4 weeks for refunds to be processed.
