Cuyahoga County Department of Development Announces Storefront Renovation Program

August 21 2012 - Shaker Heights Shop Owners Encouraged to Apply.

The Cuyahoga County Department of Development (DoD) has announced its 2012 storefront renovation rebate program (SRRP) for property owners and business tenants in communities across Cuyahoga County. 

 
Eligible projects can receive up to a 30 percent rebate to a maximum of $11,400, on projects totaling no more than $38,000. Property owners and tenants can apply through the City of Shaker Heights Economic Development Department at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  for improvements to their storefronts on items such as signage, awnings, entryways, exterior painting and lighting, etc.With the SRRP, the County hopes to facilitate façade improvements and correct exterior code violations. These improvements lead to revitalized commercial areas, limination of blight and serve to enhance the livability of surrounding neighborhoods. The funds are available only for existing storefronts and independently owned businesses (franchise and chain businesses are not eligible). Funds are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis through the end of 2012. Businesses in Shaker Heights interested in participating in the Storefront Renovation Rebate Program must obtain an application from the Economic Development director in Shaker Heights. Shaker Heights Arts & Music Festival Returns June 22 & 23

May 6, 2013 - Now in its fourth year, the Shaker Heights Arts & Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23, promises to deliver a weekend packed with great food from local vendors, a juried art show, phenomenal musical entertainment and activities for children. Free admission. Farnsleigh Road will be closed to through traffic from Thursday, June 20 through Sunday, June 23.

Shaker Heights Landmark Commission Announces First Annual Preservation Month Photo Contest

May 3, 2013 - The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission invites you to capture what you love about Shaker Heights in the first annual Preservation Month Photo Contest. The contest was created in honor of National Preservation Month, which is celebrated each May by preservation organizations across the country.

The Landmark Commission formally recognizes the City’s historic places through the designation of landmarks and the annual Preservation Awards program. Celebrate your favorite historic places in Shaker.

Recreation Improvements Close Facilities

May 3, 2013 - The following facilities will be closed for improvements:

Around the World Playground, located adjacent to the Shaker Heights Main Library, is closed April 29 through June 3 for removal and replacement of the rubber safety surface.

Sussex Tennis Courts, located on the grounds of the Shaker Family Center, are closed May 3 through May 10 for relining and color coating of the surface.

Shaker Starbucks Seeks to Stay in Van Aken District
