Landmark Commission Announces Preservation Programs

Celebrate preservation in Shaker Heights with a Photo Contest and Preservation Awards

Dateline: January 26, 2016 - The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission seeks submissions and nominations for the 4th Annual Preservation Month Photo Contest and the 2016 Preservation Awards.

The Landmark Commission Photo Contest honors National Preservation Month in May. The Commission invites professional and amateur photographers to share their images of what makes the City of Shaker Heights special and beautiful to them. One or more winners will be selected from the following categories: architecture/building; landscape/nature; and community (local event, street/sidewalk scene, people, etc.). The contest is free and open to all.

The Preservation Awards program, established in 1998, recognizes property owners who have preserved and improved their properties. Exterior projects completed within the last two years are eligible. Any building in Shaker Heights may be nominated – homes and apartment buildings, commercial buildings, and other structures. Award categories include: retention of original materials; exterior restoration; excellence in stewardship; distinguished landscape; and architecturally appropriate addition.

Submissions and nominations will be accepted online through March 31. Winners for the Photo Contest will be announced May 1. Winners for the Preservation Awards will be announced in the fall. More information is available online.
