RTA Rail Crossing Reconstruction at Southington/Shaker Boulevard Begins Monday, August 8
Traffic on Southington across Shaker prohibited during 19-day project
Dateline: August 1, 2016 - All vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Southington Rd. across Shaker Blvd. will be prohibited Monday, August 8 through Friday, August 26 for reconstruction of the intersection’s Green Line rail crossing. There will be no stop at Southington during the three-week construction period. Green line trains will run normally except on August 13-14 and 20-21, when buses will replace the trains, east of Shaker Square.
The project is part of the RTA’s continuing improvements to Rapid rail crossings in Shaker Heights.
During construction, traffic on Shaker Blvd. will be reduced to one lane in each direction (east and west). Northbound traffic on Southington will be detoured to West Park via Shaker. Southbound traffic on Southington will be detoured to Coventry via Shaker. Pedestrians may cross at West Park or Coventry.
To facilitate a shorter period of inconvenience, the 19-day project also includes two weekends when construction is scheduled 24 hours a day. Night work begins at 1:30 am on Saturday, August 13 and ends at 1:30 am on Monday, August 15 with the same schedule the following weekend, August 20-22. Heavy equipment and noise pollution activities will be scheduled during day-time hours to minimize noise levels during weekend nights.
Delta Railroad Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the project. For additional information, contact Delta Project Manager Matthew Zappitelli at 440-813-6617.
