First Democracy Day in Shaker Heights Scheduled for September 11
Dateline: August 21, 2017 - Monday, September 11 has been designated by the City of Shaker Heights as its first Democracy Day, as a result of the initiative petition approved by voters in November 2016. A public hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. that day regarding the initiative’s support of a movement to amend the US Constitution to establish that corporations are not people and money is not free speech. Those in attendance will be granted up to five minutes to speak.
The first Democracy Day will convene in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 3400 Lee Rd. The ordinance that voters approved, now Section 113.10 of the City’s Ordinances, is available to the public at the Office of the Clerk of Council at City Hall or online.
