Process Underway for Appointment of Mayor with Term Ending December 31, 2018
Seven residents submit timely applications
Dateline: March 14, 2018 - Following the resignation of Mayor Earl M. Leiken to become Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish’s chief of staff effective March 31, Shaker Heights City Council has conducted an open application process to appoint a mayor to serve until December 31, 2018. The Charter of the City of Shaker Heights specifies Council’s authority to make this appointment.
Last week, City Council received seven timely applications (received by the deadline of 12:00 noon on Friday, March 9) for appointment to the position. (The list of candidates is posted at http://shakeronline.com/government/mayor-s-office.) During the week of March 19, Council will conduct interviews of those candidates deemed most qualified.
Council has 60 days, beginning April 1, to appoint a mayor to serve through the end of 2018, and a person elected by the voters in November will take office on January 1, 2019.
