Large Items for Disposal

Free large item drop-offs are accepted on Saturdays year-round. Bring items to the Service Center (15600 Chagrin Blvd.) on Saturdays only 8 am-4 pm. Please note:

  • Only residents of Shaker Heights may drop off items, and only for the property or unit in which they live. Bring a driver's license and current utility bill (within 90 days) or vehicle registration as proof of residency.
  • One drop off per household per quarter (quarters are Jan-March, April-June, July-Sept, Oct-Dec)
  • One vehicle per household per drop off
  • If you have special circumstances that warrant an additional drop off, please send an email request to Public Works. Include your name, address, and the reason for exception.
  • Disposal is self-serve.
  • Our goal is to let everyone drop off their items quickly and efficiently while meeting the strict licensing of acceptable materials. This service is meant for items that need to be discarded that would typically fit in a car or pickup truck.

Vehicles

Personal vehicles permitted to drop off:

  • Cars
  • Minivans
  • Personal/Rental pickup trucks
  • SUVs

Vehicles not allowed to drop off:

  • Cars with trailers
  • Rental box trucks
  • Other types of large trucks or vans

Accepted & Unaccepted Items

Acceptable items include:

  • Appliances
  • Furniture
  • Household items
  • Small amounts of building materials

Please Note: Periodically, the Service Center will close for maintenance or other reasons on Saturdays. We make every effort to alert the public in advance to these closures, but we recommend calling 216-295-3492 before you come to make sure the Service Center is open.

Christmas Tree Removal

Place Christmas trees on the tree lawn. Do not wrap in anything (such as plastic bags). The trees are collected and ground for soil and mulch.
