Ice Skating Programs

Learn to Skate Program

People of all ages are invited to experience the benefits of skating through the Recreation Department's popular Learn to Skate program. These group lessons follow the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program, the most widely used and nationally recognized skating education program.

Age groups for Learn to Skate include: Baby Blades (ages 1.5 to 3); Snowplow Sam (ages 3 to 5); Basic (ages 6 and up); and Adult (ages 15 and up).

Every spring, Shaker's Learn to Skate participants are invited to participate in the Annual Ice Show sponsored by the Recreation Department.

Private Learn to Skate Program

Our professional staff of ice skating coaches are available to instruct private lessons to skaters of all ages and skill levels. Private lessons are conducted during open skate sessions and are designed to improve skating skills for figure skating or hockey power skating. Lesson length and price vary and individuals are responsible for paying the instructor directly. Skaters taking a private lesson are required to pay the City of Shaker Heights for ice time and skate rental, if needed. For more information, please call 216-491-1295.
