Boards, Committees & Commissions
City boards, committees, commissions, task forces and advisory groups meet regularly to develop legislation and/or recommend policy on a wide range of issues. Residents may bring a matter to the attention of Council by contacting the committees's chair.
Residents are invited to take advantage of the opportunity to serve on a variety of committees, boards, commissions, task forces, and advisory groups to Council, the Mayor, and the City alongside their elected officials.

Administration Committee
Reviews action plans of the Information Technology, Law, Human Resources and Communications & Marketing Departments. Considers policy recommendations from these departments.

Architectural Board of Review
Regulates the design, materials, location and orientation of all structures to be constructed, as well as all exterior modifications to existing structures.

Board of Appeals
Hears appeals from decisions, orders and notices of violation issued pursuant to various City Codes involving housing, dogs, sidewalks, and other Codes, and nuisances involving housing, grass, trees, vermin, criminal activity, and others.

City Planning Commission & Board of Zoning Appeals
Makes decisions regarding amendments to the Zoning Code and map, variances, Conditional Use Permits, site plans, re-subdivision of land, and improvements to public land. Implements land use policies and provides advice for specific projects and a framework for leveraging physical assets.

City Planning Commission Working Group
Subgroup of the City Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals, Architectural Review Board and Landmark Commission, whose members form this body.

Civil Service Commission
Determines the criteria for appointment and promotion in the Fire and Police service of the City.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

Fair Housing Review Board
Hears housing discrimination complaints and assures that all persons have full and equal access to housing without risk of discrimination based on race, color, national origin or ancestry, religion, gender, disability, familial status or sexual orientation.

Finance Committee
Reviews annual action plans of the Finance Department. Considers policy recommendations related to the budget and serves as the audit committee for the presentation of the City's annual financial statements.

Landmark Commission
Designates landmarks in order to preserve, protect and perpetuate places, buildings, structures, works of art and other objects having special historical or community value. Addresses strategic issues and provides assistance to all property owners on methods of preserving their structures.

Neighborhood & Economic Development Committee
Reviews annual action plans of Building and Housing, and Economic Development departments. Oversees implementation of the Housing and Neighborhood Plan.

Recreation Committee
Reviews annual action plans of Recreation department and considers policy recommendations related to recreation.

Records Commission
Provides rules for retention and disposal of records of the City, and to review records disposal lists submitted by City offices and departments.

Safety & Public Works Committee
Reviews annual action plans of Police, Fire, and Public Works departments. Considers policy recommendations related to the delivery of safety and core services.

Sustainability Committee
Expands and implements best sustainability practices for the City, our residents and businesses.

Tree Advisory Board
Builds community support for the City's tree programs and educates residents on issues related to the City's trees and urban forests.
