The Rental Property inspection is a visual inspection of the interior and exterior of a rental property that is required every three years. This process takes about 90-120 minutes for one, two, and three family units; longer for apartment building depending on the number of units.
During the inspection, an inspector will systematically check over the interior and exterior of the property. (View exterior inspection guidelines (PDF) and interior inspection guidelines (PDF).) Rental property owners will receive a letter in the mail when it’s time for their inspection; owners may call 216-491-1470 to schedule an appointment.
After the rental property inspection, the owner will be given 90 days to correct any violations. Property owners who have made some progress, but require more time to correct remaining violations can request an extension.
