Employment Support

Unemployment Insurance The Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) Office of Unemployment Insurance has a variety of resources available here to help employers and employees navigate the support programs in place. View FAQs specific to employers.

Avoid Layoffs – SharedWork Ohio is a voluntary layoff aversion program that allows you to keep workers employed under reduced hours during times of reduced business activity, and ODJFS provides eligible individuals an unemployment insurance benefit proportionate to their reduced hours.

Ohio’s Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) is deferring installment payments for Policy Year 2020 for June, July, and August to September 1, 2020.  BWC previously deferred insurance premium installment payments for March, April and May to June 1, 2020.

Additionally, BWC sent $1.6 billion in dividends to Ohio employers to ease the economic impact of COVID-19. The dividend was equal to approximately 100% of the premiums employers paid in policy year 2018. Dividends were first applied to an employer’s outstanding balance, and any excess was sent to the employer.  See these BWC FAQs for additional information on all BWC COVID-19 responses and information.
