The Shaker Heights Police Department will be assessed by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) on June 21 and 22, 2021. A team of CALEA Assessors will examine all aspects of the department’s policies, procedures, management operations and support services. This assessment is an important component of a 4-year Re-accreditation process.

Assessors are law enforcement practitioners from similar but out-of-state agencies, who review policies, procedures, proofs of compliance, and interview agency members to verify compliance. The assessment team consists of Team Leader, Mr. John Moulton, retired Captain, Hagerstown (MD) Police Department and Team Member Captain Rachel Patters, City of Miramar (FL) Police Department. They will submit a report to the CALEA commission once their review has been completed.

A virtual public information session with the assessors, via Zoom, will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021. Members of the public and agency employees can join the meeting at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85639082861. Individuals may also call (216) 491-2529 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and leave a voicemail for the assessors, including a call back number. An assessor will return the call as soon as possible.

Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments regarding the Shaker Heights Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155 or email calea@calea.org.

This will be the Shaker Heights Police Department's 9th re-accreditation since achieving initial Accreditation in 1989.
