Ballot box Election 2020

Get Ready to Vote


1. Register to vote by Monday, October 5.
2. If you plan to vote by mail, request your mail-in ballot by noon Saturday, October 31. But earlier is better!
3. Mail in ballots must be postmarked by November 2.
4. Vote in person by Tuesday, November 3. Be sure to check your polling location before heading to the polls and to bring an ID (view accepted forms of ID).
5. View dates/times for in-person early voting.

Note: Some Shaker polling locations have changed. (View a PDF of updated locations) Are you a new resident? Or did you recently move within Shaker? Update your voter registration by October 5 with your current address.

County Rental Assistance Program


Residents who are having difficulty making rental payments due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis may be eligible for assistance from the Cuyahoga County Rent Relief Fund, offered by CHN Housing Partners. It provides up to three months in emergency rental assistance to income-eligible tenants.

There will be no trash delay for the Columbus Day holiday, Monday, October 12.

Leaf Collection Begins October 15


With the arrival of fall, leaf collection starts soon! Reminder:

  • Leaf season runs from October 15 to                mid-December
  • Residents should rake leaves to their tree lawns for collection by City crews
  • Continue to place brush (large branches) on the tree lawn; please keep brush separate from leaves

Collections will take place approximately every two weeks. Please refrain from raking leaves into the street, as they can clog storm drains and create dangerous driving conditions. Learn more.

9 am-1 pm

Residents may bring up to three bankers boxes of paper for shredding. No need to remove staples or other binding devices. Driver's license and proof of residency (e.g. current utility bill) required.

Location: Parking lot directly ACROSS the street from the Service Center (15600 Chagrin Blvd.).

Farmers to Families Food Box

Location: 12200 Fairhill Rd.

11 am-1 pm


Free fresh produce and dairy products. Distribution located at the stables, directly south of the main building. All are welcome, but ID is required. First come, first served. Rain or shine. This is a no-contact, curbside pickup event.  

Mobile Pantry at First Baptist Church

Location: 3630 Fairmount Blvd. 
Saturday, October 3

10 am-12 pm

Fresh produce. Bring an ID and your own reusable bags. The League of Women Voters will be on hand to register last-minute voters and answer any questions about the election/voting process.

Shaker Hunger Center
Location: Shaker Community Church (20120 Lomond Blvd.)

Bring a valid ID and a recent utility bill. Please wear a mask. 

Note: Under the terms of its funding, Shaker Hunger Center is only able to serve residents in certain communities: Shaker Heights and Cuyahoga County suburbs to the north and east of Shaker Heights, except for Cleveland Heights and South Euclid. The Shaker Hunger Center cannot serve residents of the City of Cleveland or suburbs to the south of Shaker Heights.
Residents outside of the Shaker Hunger Center's service area can find other distribution locations.

These small food pantries are open all day, every day at: 
  • Christ Episcopal Church (3445 Warrensville Center Rd.) Pantry is at the northeast corner of the building.
  • Heights Christian Church (17300 Van Aken Blvd.) Pantry is located on Winslow Road side of building.
  • Plymouth Church (2860 Coventry Rd.) Pantry is located near the Children's Garden on the north end of the parking lot.

District Plans for Return to On-Site Learning
During the Tuesday, September 22 Board of Education Work Session, District administrators presented the District’s plans to transition students to full onsite or hybrid learning beginning in late October. Families whose students do not plan to return to school for onsite learning may enroll their students in an online-only option. Thank You For Showing Shaker Students Some TLC!
Thank you to all who have donated to the Shaker Schools Foundation’s TLC Fund: Tech 2 Learn & Connect! To date, $42,000 has been raised to provide learning solutions that enhance remote learning and provide a more equitable experience for our students. Your donations allowed the Foundation to purchase headsets with microphones and computer mice for all K-6 students, as well as magnetic letter boards, counting sets and math racks for hands-on learning at home. Funds will also be used to enhance art, music and PE offerings for all grades. See your donations in action!

Guided Birding Walk

Sunday, November 8
8-9:30 am

Join members of the Nature Center staff on a guided walk through the Shaker Parklands looking and listening for birds! Meet in the Nature Center parking lot. Masks and six feet of social distancing between non-family participants will be required. Please bring your own binoculars. Note: The Nature Center (and restrooms) remain closed to the public, so please plan accordingly. FREE, but a $5 donation suggested. Please register.
