August 3 Congressional Election InformationThe Tuesday, August 3 Special Primary Election for the 11th Congressional District will decide the Democratic and Republican candidates who will advance to the Tuesday, November 2 General Election. This election is to fill the seat of former Congressperson Marcia Fudge who is now serving as the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
The deadline to register to vote for the Tuesday, August 3 special election is Tuesday, July 6. Early in-person voting begins Wednesday, July 7. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Saturday, July 31.

It's Yard Waste Bag SeasonNow through mid-October, residents should use brown yard-waste bags (available at area stores) for all yard waste, except brush. Shaker Heights recycles yard waste into mulch and compost, but the program only works if residents put the right stuff in their yard-waste bags. Learn what belongs in the bag. And what doesn't.

Thornton Park Pool UpdateBeginning Monday, July 5, the Thornton Park Pool will be open to the public daily from 10 am - 7:30 pm. Advance reservations will no longer be required. Labor Day Parade The Memorial Day Parade will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 6 at 9 am. The parade will begin at the intersection of Van Aken Blvd. and Lee Road and will march 1.5 miles eastbound, ending at the Van Aken District. Bike Shaker 2021 Events: Moreland Neighborhood Ride Sunday, July 11 11 am-1 pm
This tour, sponsored by the Shaker Historical Society, will visit historically significant sites in the Moreland neighborhood based on extensive research and oral histories collected by neighborhood residents during the Moreland History Project in 2017. 'Common Ground Conversation' at Nature CenterFriday, July 16 - Friday, July 30 This year marks the fifth anniversary of Common Ground, a celebration of community-led conversations convened by partners across Greater Cleveland. District Summer Office HoursThrough Friday, August 6, all District buildings will observe summer hours. During this time, all builidings will be open Mondays-Thursdays 8 am-4:30 pm, and closed on Fridays. All District buildings and offices will resume regular office hours of 8 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday on Monday, August 9. Support Shaker Schools Foundation at Craft Collective Beer Fest Aug. 7The Shaker Schools Foundation will be the selected beneficiary of Craft Collective's first annual Beer Fest on Saturday, August 7 at The Van Aken District. Tickets go on sale July 2; a portion of the proceeds will support the Educational Equity Fund, providing equitable access to opportunities for all Shaker students. The event features 10 Ohio breweries, as well as food, music and fun for those over 21. Tap into this "Collective" effort to support Shaker students.
