Congressional Election is Tuesday, August 3Please vote! The Tuesday, August 3 Special Primary Election for the 11th Congressional District will decide the Democratic and Republican candidates who will advance to the Tuesday, November 2 General Election. This election is to fill the seat of former Congressperson Marcia Fudge who is now serving as the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Saturday, July 31.

Horseshoe Lake Bridge Closed Until Further Notice
Please note that out of concern for public safety, the Horseshoe Lake walkway will remain closed until further notice due to dangerous conditions. Once additional testing is completed, enhanced barricades will be installed to protect public safety.Public Meeting to Answer Questions Related to NEORSD RecommendationMonday, August 9 6:30 pm The Cities of Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights will hold a joint, in-person meeting of their respective Councils in order to answer remaining questions about the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District's recommendations for Horseshoe Lake and Lower Lake dams. Representatives from Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights and NEORSD will be on hand to answer questions. No public comment will be taken due to Cleveland Heights meeting protocol. Please review information and FAQs available on the City's website.
Questions may be submitted in advance through Monday, August 2. Attendees may also submit questions in writing during the meeting.

Green, Blue Line Rail Service to Shut Down for Eight WeeksFrom Sunday, August 8 -Saturday, October 2, Blue and Green Line rail service east of Tower City will be replaced with 67R buses due to an eight week GCRTA track construction project between Buckeye-Woodhill and Shaker Square. 67R buses will follow a special route during this shutdown, operating to/from Green Road via Van Aken Boulevard and Warrensville Center Road.

2021 Preservation Month Photo Contest WinnersThe Shaker Heights Landmark Commission announces winners of the ninth annual Preservation Month Photo Contest. Created in 2013, the contest honors Preservation Month, which is celebrated each May by preservation organizations across the country. Fourteen photographers submitted 33 photos at the Instagram hashtag #PreserveSH21.

It's Yard Waste Bag SeasonNow through mid-October, residents should use brown yard-waste bags (available at area stores) for all yard waste, except brush. Bags should be placed on lawns the morning of your scheduled pickup. Shaker Heights recycles yard waste into mulch and compost, but the program only works if residents put the right stuff in their yard-waste bags. Learn what belongs in the bag. And what doesn't.

Shaker365 Archives: International Women's Group of ClevelandThe International Women's Group of Cleveland gathers every month for friendship and cultural outings. Labor Day Parade The postponed Memorial Day Parade will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 6 at 9 am. The parade will begin at the intersection of Van Aken Boulveard and Lee Road and will march 1.5 miles eastbound, ending at the Van Aken District. To participate in the Parade, please register by Friday, August 6.

Bike Shaker 2021: Moreland Neighborhood Walking Tour Sunday, August 15 11 am-1 pm
Note: This tour has been transitioned to a walking tour due to navigation and road safety concerns.
The final tour in the summer series, sponsored by the Shaker Historical Society, will visit historically significant sites in the Moreland neighborhood based on extensive research and oral histories collected by neighborhood residents during the Moreland History Project in 2017. A map will be available to download for self-guided tours after this guided tour. Please register.

Support Shaker Schools Foundation at Craft Collective Beer Fest Aug. 7The Shaker Schools Foundation will be the selected beneficiary of Craft Collective's first annual Beer Fest on Saturday, August 7 at The Van Aken District. Tickets are on sale now; a portion of the proceeds will support the Educational Equity Fund, providing equitable access to opportunities for all Shaker students. The event features 10 Ohio breweries, as well as food, music and fun for those over 21. Tap into this "Collective" effort to support Shaker students.
