NOPEC Electricity Aggregation Program Enrollment

The City is a member of the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC), which offers an electric aggregation program. NOPEC is a nonprofit made up of more than 220 Ohio communities that buys electric in bulk from NextEra Energy Services Ohio, LLC (NESO). Residents in NOPEC communities are automatically enrolled, but may opt out at any time.

Every three years, NOPEC is required to enroll eligible customers in member communities. Shaker residents began receiving enrollment letters in October. All eligible accounts are automatically enrolled in the program, so if you receive the letter and would like to join, or remain in the program, do nothing. If you’d like to opt out, return the enclosed form.

NOPEC offers a 100% renewable energy program. Be sure to check that out if you're interested.

Learn more at NOPEC's website.

Fall leaf collection schedule

Leaf Collection Has Started

Leaf collection season is currently underway. Whether you're new to the City, or a longtime resident, here are some helpful reminders:
  • Leaf season runs from October 15 to mid-December;
  • Residents should rake leaves to their tree lawns for collection by City crews;
  • Continue to place brush (large branches) on the tree lawn; please keep brush separate from leaves.
Collections will take place approximately every two weeks. Please refrain from raking leaves into the street, as they can clog storm drains and create dangerous driving conditions. Learn more.

Speaking of fall leaves, it's never too early to prepare for a healthy spring lawn. By mulching your leaves with a mower, and applying grass seed and compost in the fall, your lawn will return greener and with fewer dandelions in the spring. Additional helpful hints can be found at the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District.
