Landmark Commission Announces Photo Contest Winners

Sixth Annual Contest Celebrates Preservation Month

Dateline: August 7, 2018 - The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission announces winners of the sixth annual Preservation Month photo contest after reviewing 59 entries submitted by 25 photographers. The contest, created in 2013, honors National Preservation Month, which is celebrated each May by preservation organizations across the country. In a nod to the widespread use of cell phone cameras and social media, this year’s contest was based in Instagram.


Gas Main Replacement Projects Update

Work begins the week of August 6

Dateline: August 3, 2018 - Dominion East Ohio will start two major gas line replacement projects, one on South Woodland Rd. and the other on Wimbledon and Hazelmere roads.


Here Comes the Moreland Roll 'N Stroll

August 4 walking and biking tour and scavenger hunt

Dateline: July 16, 2018 – The City will host the first Moreland Roll ‘N Stroll on Saturday, August 4. Check-in begins at 9:30 am at The Dealership, 3558 Lee Road, with the self-guided tour and scavenger hunt through the Moreland neighborhood from 10 am – noon. The fun continues with games and crafts until 2 pm. The event begins and ends at The Dealership. It’s a free, family-friendly event.


Mayor's Statement on Fernway Elementary School Fire 

Dateline: July 10, 2018 -- Today, a large, fast-moving fire on the roof of Fernway Elementary School caused significant damage to the building, but thankfully, no injuries or loss of life.

Thanks to the swift action of the first responders from the Shaker Heights Fire and Police departments, along with mutual aid from departments as far away as Lake County, the fire was extinguished safely and quickly. Crews will remain on scene to ensure that all hotspots are fully extinguished and the building is secure.
